Wertham, Fredric (20 March 1895–18 November 1981), psychiatrist, was born Fredric Wertheimer in Nuremberg (some sources state Munich), Germany, the son of Sigmund Wertheimer, a businessman, and Mathilde Wertheimer, whose maiden name is unknown. In 1922, after less than a year with Kraepelin, Wertham accepted an invitation to the United States from Dr. Kraepelin's protégé Alfred Meyer to work at Worcester State Hospital in Massachusetts. He soon moved to the Phipps Psychiatric Clinic at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland....
