The camp of the 16th infantry, on the Oplain river, sixteen miles northwest of Chicago, is bounded on the east and north by a marsh. This circumstance accounts for the large number of cases of ague and diarrhoea among our men during the month, most of the latter being of a decidedly bilious character, having well-marked remissions and exacerbations, and requiring the use of antiperiodic medicines. Sulphate of quinia has been chiefly used for this purpose.
