------------------------------

Henry Williamson Hoagland graduated from the University of Pennsylvania as a physician. He was the husband of Harriet Julia Seldomridge. They were the parents of Anthony D and Henry V Hoagland who lived in Pasadena at the time of their father's death. They were also the parents of Henry W. Hoagland, Jr who lived in Washington, DC at the time of his father's death and worked as an advance man for President Eisenhower. During WWI, Dr. Hoagland was involved in the Oteen Veteran's Hospital in Ashville, NC where he suggested the name of the hospital. Colonel Hoagland said that the name Oteen was an American Indian word meaning "chief aim" and it was the chief aim of every patient to get well. The hospital's primary focus was the treatment of tuberculosis, and it was the only VA hospital in the southeast devoted to the treatment of respiratory ailments. Dr. Hoagland had a sister, Mrs. Horace E. Pastorius of Redlands, CA.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 12 2024, 19:06:49 UTC
