About Dr. Jack Robert Dustman

Dr. Jack Dustman, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010.

He was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Rockford, Ill. While growing up in Rockford, Dr. Dustman loved going to Chicago Cubs baseball games and golfing with his dad and uncles. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Arizona State University and graduated with his undergraduate and Master of Business Administration degrees.

He then moved to California and taught at the University of Southern California and California State Polytechnic in Pomona. He lived in Mount Baldy, where he met and was married to Jeanne Cummings. While in California, he attended the University of Southern California and graduated with his Doctor of Business Administration degree. Dr. Dustman also taught at Cal Lutheran University and lived in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

In 1969, Dr. Dustman moved his family to Flagstaff and began his career at Northern Arizona University, where he was a Professor of Business Administration for 40 years. He retired as Professor Emeritus in May 2010.

Dr. Dustman was a community leader and enjoyed serving his community. When he lived in Mount Baldy, he worked as a volunteer firefighter and was an active in his church. In northern Arizona, he served as an adviser for the Sedona Fire Department, was president of the Continental Country Club, and was a coach and board member for Continental Little League. He served as an arbitrator for NAU and various organizations throughout northern Arizona. He was very active in his church and enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was a supporter of the NAU Lumberjack Athletic Association.

Dr. Dustman enjoyed music, sports, animals and the community of Flagstaff. He was an avid golfer and a gifted pianist and singer. He sang in the Flagstaff Master Chorale for many years and played the piano for numerous college, church and community events. He enjoyed the outdoors and the natural beauty of northern Arizona. He spent quality time with friends and family, golfing, cutting wood, hiking and enjoying nature. He loved his pets and the natural wildlife of northern Arizona. He was a loving husband, father and friend. He loved his family.

Dr. Dustman is survived by his wife, Jeanne; sons David of Mesa, and John (Elyse) of Studio City, Calif.; daughters Paula (Scott) Martin of Overland Park, and Lisa (Jon) Abrahamson of Lakeview, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, 3600 N. Fourth St. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship is being set up in Dr. Dustman's memory at Northern Arizona University. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.
