DR. J. D. MCMILLAN
Quiet, more or less reserved, but universally respected and liked--that is the estimate this writer has formed of Dr. McMillan.
He is a good physician and has a large practice. His medical education was completed at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, where he graduated in 1876. His earlier reading was under the direction of Dr. Duncan Smith, of St. Pauls's Township, in which township the Doctor was reared. His parents were Daniel and Isabella McMillan, who long were prominent in the social life of the good old township of St. Paul's. The Doctor is fifty-five years of age.
Dr. McMillan began practicing here in 1876. Three years later he opened a drug store at the very stand now occupied by his up-to-date pharmacy.
Dr. McMillan is a member of the State and County Medical Societies. He is a devoted member of the Presbyterian church, and has been an elder for ten years.
Dr. McMillan has been married twice, and has one child by each wife. His first wife was Miss Sarah Ellen McMillan. Her son, J. D., Jr., is a registered pharmacist, having completed his course in Baltimore last year.
The present Mrs. McMillan was formerly Miss Arabella Rowland, a sister of the late Col. Rowland, who represented this district in Congress for a number of years. She has one child, Miss Flora, who has been studying for several years at Elizabeth College, Charlotte.
