Col. John Anderson Scudder, MD

Son of Nathaniel and Isabella (Anderson) Scudder.

• Died: November 6, 1836 in Washington, Davies County, Indiana.
• Burial: Old City Cemetery, Washington, Davies County, Indiana.
• Military Service: Revolutionary War served as surgeon's mate in the First Regiment of Monmouth County, New Jersey.
• Education: 1775 - Graduated from Princeton College.
• Occupation: US Representative from New Jersey/Doctor.
• Married: Elizabeth Wyckoff Forman February 10, 1788 in Freehold, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

U.S. Representative from New Jersey. Completed preparatory studies, and graduated from Princeton College in 1775. He studied medicine and commenced practice in Monmouth County, New Jersey. During the Revolutionary War served as surgeon's mate in the First Regiment of Monmouth County, in 1777. Secretary of the New Jersey Medical Society in 1788 and 1789. He served as member of the New Jersey General Assembly representing Monmouth County from 1801 through 1807, and as a Member of the New Jersey Legislative Council in 1809.

Elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Eleventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James Cox and served from October 31, 1810, to March 3, 1811. He was not a candidate for renomination to the Twelfth Congress. He resumed the practice of medicine. He moved to Kentucky after 1810 and to Daviess County, Indiana, in 1819. He died in Washington, Indiana, November 6, 1836. He was interred in the Old City Cemetery.

Surgeon in 1777 of the same regiment of which his father was colonel. He was for several successive years elected to a seat in the legislature of the state, and in 1810 was chosen to represent it in national congress. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Ezekiel Forman and Catherine Wyckoff, his wife, and removed to Kentucky, then to Indiana. Their children were : Charles, married Mary, daughter of Rhodin Horde, of Fredericksburg. Virginia. Nathaniel. Emma, married David Wood. Jacob. John. Henrv, married a Miss Beasley. William. Ellen, married Jesse Crabbs. Kenneth, a physician of Indianapolis, was for several years a member of the state legislature, and one of the commissioners who laid out the city of Indianapolis.
