Dr Josef Goldmann

Dr Juris 1936, Prague University; Member of Czech government under Benes in exile in England till1945. An economist, he was active in Czech governments after the war. A member of the central committee of the Czechoslovak communist party, 1945-49 and deputy head of the State Economic Planning Office, 1949-52. He was tried during the totalitarian processes of the 1950s (among others with Josef Smrkovský), and imprisoned in 1954; he was released in 1960 and rehabilitated in 1963. He subsequently worked in the Economic Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.
