About Dr. Joseph Sachs

Józef Sachs - Polish merchant of Jewish origin, economic activist, social activist, educational activist in Łódź.
He graduated from university and had a doctorate in philosophy. He was the owner of the Department Store in Łódź at ul. Piotrkowska 77 and representative offices of the insurance company "Ruski Lloyd". He was a member of the Audit Committee of Widzewska Manufaktura and Szaji Rosenblatt Cotton Products Joint Stock Company .
He was a co-founder and a long-term president of the Towarzystwo Subiektów Handlowych which in 1900 was transformed into the Society for Mutual Assistance of Trade Workers. He was a co-founder in 1907 and a member of the board of the Mutual Credit Society of Łódź Merchants and Industrialists [1] .
He was the chairman of the Council of the School of Women's Crafts for Jews in Łódź. In independent Poland, he ran in the elections to the Legislative Seym in 1919, but did not win the seat.
In the interwar period it was:
president of the Merchants' Association in Łódź, vice president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, founder and president of the Association of Chemical Enterprise Owners, a member of the Association of Technicians in Łódź , member of the board of the Society for the Promotion of Professional and Agricultural Work among Jews ORT, a member of the board of the Łódź Jewish Charity Society member of the Audit Committee of the Lodz Society for the Nursing of the Sick "Bikur Cholim" (Health Resort) one of the initiators of the Polish Theater.
He was one of the organizers of the ambulance service in 1898 in Łódź (the Medical Emergency Society, i.e. the Łódź ambulance service, 3rd in Poland, 4th in Europe)
He co-organized Polish education in 1905 in Łódź, he was an activist of the Polish School Matter .
He lived at ul. Piotrkowska 85.
The board of the Merchants 'Association of the City of Łódź, of which he was president, adopted a resolution on the establishment of an economic library in his name in June 1931 and appointed a Library Committee chaired by Mieczysław Hertz , the then president of the Merchants' Association.
