About Dr. K. V. Mital

Papa, You have been a disciplined, outstanding, most knowledgeable and an excellent orator. Tennis was your love of life. Asceticism was your way of life. You were a perfectionist.

I informed thousands of Roorkeeites today of your demise, about a hundred responded within the first couple of hours. You are well remembered by your students:

Naren Patni recalls you as a 'visionary teacher'. Kanti Prasad writes that your approach to teaching differential equations is used as a model in USA. Pradeep Mehra says that without your support he could never have earned his gold medal. Sewa Ram informs that you introduced computer on the campus and offered classes for the first time. Devki N Garg describes you as a noble and likeable soul, besides being an extremely marvelous teacher. Subhash C. Goel mentions you as his beloved teacher. Shamsher Prakash refers you as a Karma Yogi. Dev Duggal talks of you as a legend. Purushottam Deo acknowledges your immense contributions to UOR. Rajendra Aggarwala refers you as not only his Math professor, but a real friend and guide during his tenure as Tennis and Recreation Secretary during 1952-53.

During the Global Alumni Conference 2010 in Chicago your two books on the History of Thomason College and the University of Roorkee were named as two earlier Avatars of IITR. "Establishment of a Museum" based on these books was discussed and supported by the Director wholeheartedly, where your books would be displayed honorably.

Talks have started about collecting funds to provide for scholarships to further your name on the IIT-Roorkee campus. I, as President Alumni Association of North America, plan to attend local chapter get-togethers from coast to coast, paying tribute to you. Family members are welcome to join us in our cause.

You are survived by three children, whom you raised to success, six granddaughters and four great grandchildren. I will always remember you fondly,

Punam
