Dr. Gene Satterfield was born on May 15, 1934 the tenth and last child of Samuel Price and Annie Kimsey Satterfield in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. He died July 7, 2015. His memorial service held on Friday, July 10 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gene and Camilla Rankin were married in Stillwater in 1958. Camilla survives him as well as their children Dr. Anna Satterfield; Dr. Craig Satterfield; Dr. Arthur Satterfield; Kellie Wallace and her spouse Dennis.

Both his parents, brothers and sisters predeceased him as well as his two half-sisters.

Gene joined the Navy in August, 1952, three weeks prior to the start of his senior year. Following boot camp in San Diego, he was sent to Bremerton Naval Reserve Group in Washington where he was invited to play for the Bremerton Naval Base baseball team. The team was composed of sailors and marines from the Naval Base, plus individuals from the Navy Shipyard and Reserve Group. Several of his team members had played for college teams or professionally in the minor leagues.

Later he was transferred to the USS Chevalier DDR806, a destroyer radar picket ship in 1953. While aboard the Chevalier he earned the non-commission officer rating of Storekeeper First Class. During his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He enrolled at Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) two weeks after his honorable discharge from the Navy. After receiving his Bachelor's Degree in 1961, he was hired as an accountant in the Auxiliary Accounting Department, later being promoted to Assistant Chief Accountant. He was also the Assistant Controller and held this position until 1973 when he was appointed to the University Business Manager. Gene also was the interim vice president for business and finance at various periods and served as the Controller for the Education and Research Foundation.

Gene would later in his career earn a Master's degree in Speech Communication and Doctorate Degree of Education-Occupational Education – Human Resource Development. Both degrees were from OSU. Gene authored four management and development training manuals under the sponsorship of the Exxon Oil Company and National Association of Colleges and Universities. He was a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities St. Louis Development workshop as well as serving as editor of the association's newsletter.

Gene was a member of the Stillwater Evening Kiwanis Club, the Toastmasters Club and Stillwater Airport Authority.
