Nathaniel Ames II (July 22, 1708 – July 11, 1764), American almanac-maker and physician, published the first annual American almanac. He was the son of Nathaniel Ames first (1677–1736) and the father of Nathaniel third. The family was descended from William Ames of Bruton, Somerset, England, whose son William emigrated to Massachusetts and settled at Braintree as early as 1640.

Dr. Nathaniel Ames, II of Dedham, Massachusetts, was a Physician and Almanac Maker. His father, also named Nathaniel Ames, was an astronomer. Dr. Ames II, it has been said, was considered remarkable for his wit and wisdom.

He was known as ... "The Inventor of the June Snow Storm", since he predicted, under much ridicule, on or about June 22nd of one Summer Day back in his time, that there would be a big snow storm in New England and it happened exactly as he had predicted! From that prediction, his almanacs became very popular and trusted and he sold more copies than Benjamin Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac !

"Ames' Almanack" (almanac) was the first almanac printed in the British North American colonies. While Benjamin Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac is the one often mentioned in contemporary history classes, at the time "Ames' Almanack" enjoyed a much larger readership. Benjamin Franklin's publication had a circulation of 10,000 copies, while "Ames' Almanack" had a circulation of 60,000 copies!
