About Dr Robert Broun

Robert Broun, M.D., came to Carolina in 1735 and settled on a plantation he named Brounfields at Goose Creek (which is about 16 miles from the present city of Charleston, SC). It is not known where he obtained M.D. degree since he was only 21 when he left Scotland. He was buried in the Chapel Yard of the Chapel-of-Ease. The Chapel was destroyed many years ago. Dr. Broun's monument was moved and re-set just inside the gate in the churchyard of St. James Church, Goose Creek.

A restoration/preservation project by a nonprofit organization is underway at the Chapel of Ease to St James Goose Creek & Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
