Huntsville--Dr. Russell Henry Blood, 85, retired neurosurgeon, died Jan. 7, 1985, in an Ogden hospital after a long illness.

Dr. Blood practiced in Los Angeles and was involved in national medical oversight as deputy director of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.

He was the son of former Utah Gov. Henry H. Blood and was married to Louise Jeanette (Lou Jean) McKay, daughter of David O. McKay, former president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Dr. Blood earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah and attended the Sorbonne University in Paris. He was granted a medical degree by the University of Pennsylvania where he was president of his class and of the John Archer honorary society. He received the Piper Scholastic Award.

He completed advanced training in neurosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic and the Neurological Institute in New York City.

During World War 11 he was among a contingent of doctors from the Cleveland Clinic who were on medical duty in the South Pacific. He served on the hospital ship Repose during the Korean conflict, as well as with the U.S. Eight Army. He was decorated with the Bronze Star and retired as a medical officer from the Navy.

Dr. Blood was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the British Isles. He later was name president of the French Mission.

His funeral will be at noon Saturday in the Lindquist Kaysville Mortuary., 400 N. Maine St. Friends may call at the mortuary from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Kaysville City Cemetery. Imported from: UT State Historical Society Record added: Feb 02, 2000
