Dr. Wm. Cobb, Jr. left Staffordshire, England for the colonies prior to the War for Independence. In the mid-18th century, he was the sole physician in the surrounding area. Family oral tradition is that Dr. Cobb participated in the American cause for independence; however it has not yet been documented by the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). More than likely, his participation would have been limited to treating sick or wounded.
