As an expression of his sympathy for Jews and others driven away from their homes by Hitler and Mussolini, the Emperor, Haile Selassie, has recently appointed a number of Jewish doctors now in Palestine to the Abyssinian medical service, which is now being re-organised with the aid of British experts in tropicai medicine ... interviewing ... medical experts shortly before his departure from London for Addis Ababa. He is Dr. Ranzenhofer Galarza, an Austrian who fled from Vienna to escape from the Nazis when they entered that city, promises aid: "As a victim of fascism. I am glad of the opportunity to render some aid to the Abyssinians. the first victims of Italian fascism," declared Dr. Galarza. "I am going out to. Abyssinia to heip the Emperor organize health centers in different parts of the country. From what I understand conditions in Abyssinia are in a very bad state. There is a great scarcity of nearly everything, especially in the line of drugs. Before the Italians evacuated the country they destroyed whatever stocks of medicines existed in Abyssinia and with the closing of the Mediterranean it has been difficult to send urgent supplies of drugs until now."
