"Allens of the Southern States." Norma Miller File. ...Drury Allen, Jr. was born May 20, 1806 in Edgefield Co., SC. He died April 13 1908 in Erath Co., TX nearly a year after the community celebrated his 100th birthday. He was buried at Piolt Knob Cem. in Erath Co., TX. Mr. Allen was married twice: (1) December 26, 1826 in Clarke Co., AL to Elizabeth Buckelew. (2) April 12, 1841 in Clarke County, to Elizabeth Wood, the widow of John Wood and the daughter of William Allen and his wife, nee Mary Hicks. Drury Allen, Jr. was on the 1830 Census of Clarke Co., AL with a wife and two daughters under 10 years of age. He was not found in the 1840 census, but his son, Edmund was born in Wilcox Co AL in Dec. 1840. Drury's first wife, nee Elizabeth Buckelew, died soon after the birth of Edmund, and Drury remarried and settled near Choctaw Corners where he was still living when the Rev. Ball compiled his histo and family sketches for that area. Ball's book included a sketch about this family. At sometime after 1880, Drury Allen removed to Texas where several of his sons and other relatives had settled. During the last few years of his life, Drury lived in Stephenville, Erath Co., TX with his son, Benjamin Franklin Allen. On his 100th birthday, relatives and friends of Drury had an all day celebration in his honor. One of Drury's descendants, Mr. Tim Sears of Houston, Texas is compiling a book about this branch of the Drury Allen Family. The cemetery records of Erath County have been published and the names of Drury Allen, Jr. and several members of his family are found there.

See Drury Allen, Sr. Drury Allen, Junior, born May 29, 1807, was six years of age when his father's family sought safety in the forts. His recollection is that Fort Glass was built by the settlers, and that the soldiers, who afterward came, built Fort Madison. He remembers thirty or forty tents of families at these forts. He settled, in 1850, near Choct Corner, about three miles on the road toward Clairborne, where he still resides. He has had five sons and four daughters. Some of these are now in Texas, and two married daughters are living in North Alabama. One of his daughters became the second wife of John Creighton, and is living near her father with a large family of children. Clarke Co, AL Marriage Records. Drury Allen was born on May 20, 1806, not on May 20, 1807 as stated in the "History of Clarke Co., AL" by Ball. On May 20, 1906, his 100th birthday as celebrated by his relatives in Erath Co, TX. Drury Allen (1806-1908) married his first wife, Elizabeth Buckaloo, daughter of John Buckaloo Sr. in Clarke Co, AL, AL on Dec 26 1826; they had at least four known children as follows: Martha Ann Allen who married Joseph Moncrief on Sep 24, 1850; Amanda Allen who married John Creighton, son of Rev. Hiram & Mary THOMAS Creighton, and died in McLennan Co, TX; William Allen who b born about 1834; and Edmund Allen who was born in 1840 and moved to OK. Drury Allen (1806-1808) married his second wife Elizabeth ALLEN Wood, daughter of William & Mary HICKS Allen, on Apr 12, 1841, Clarke Co, AL. Their seven whildren were as follows: Robert Allen, Henry Cyrus Allen, Benjamin Franklin Allen, Eli Reaves Allen, George Washington Allen, Sar J. Allen and Lucy Candis Allen (Note: Lucy Candis is not given in other accounts).

Died at home of Benjamin F. and Amanda at Smith Springs, Erath Co., TX. Family tradition in the B.F. Allen family says that one son of Drury Allen Jr. fought in the C.S.A. and was killed in the Civil War. Could that son have been the unnamed son from the first marriage?
