About Dulciebella Roihi Hill
Dulcie HILL : Teacher; Tuititawa, Huriara (Stratford). There were lovely camelia trees at Huriara which where quite white, with the fowls having roosted in them Another time I remember the School Inspector coming , panic stations came & we rushed up the hill to the school house cleaned up & suddenly a knock at the door . Aunty Dulcie in a panic opened the front door ( which was never used ) , and threw the contents out , but with shock and dismay went partly over the Inspector . All was well after a wash and clean . Aunty Dulcie I remember always wore her leather coat of some years, when driving her little green car Christmas's & Parties were held in the huge kitchen at Ratapiko ( Dulciebella's house ) The Hill boys Tam, Peter, & Frank caught freshwater crayfish from the creek at the back of the house ( the original house ) at the Puniho farm . ( remembrances by Russell Claire ) Matthew HILL: father of Matthew Inkerman was a private in 57th Regiment, came to New Zealand on the troop ship Star Queen 1860 fought in Maori Wars, & also the Crimea (Inkerman - Sebastopol) hence that is how Matthew Inkerman came to have Inkerman as a middle name . ( Hope Phillipps )
