About Duncan Campbell
Duncan was a cousin of Lord William Campbell, Gov. of South Carolina as verified by Duncan's great-grandson, Victor C. Campbell who, during his lifetime, had frequent correspondence with his distant cousin, John Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll, the husband of Queen Victoria's daughter, Louise. Descent from the lords of Argyll was a known family oral history, and research on identifying the shared grandparent or great-grandparent of Duncan and Lord William is ongoing. Victor C. Campbell was my 3rd-great uncle. -[Private User]
Duncan's son, Allen Alexander Campbell, was recently verified through non-endogamous DNA line matches between Allen's descendants and the descendants of Duncan's documented sons Daniel and John.
Duncan must be from Skye because the obituary of his son, Allen Alexander Campbell, confirms that Allen was from Skye. -Jenn D, Esq.
Euphronia Church records say Duncan was born in Scotland in 1728 and died 1832.
Duncan's father has been speculated elsewhere as "Duncan of Kilduskland" b.c.1698 in Kilduskland, Argyllshire, and d. aft 27 Mar 1739, "sp." But "sp" means "sine prole," or "without children." This is confirmed by Steve Edgerton.
Surname of wife has been speculated as "McKinnon" or "Stewart." However, the former is from a NC marriage long after kids are born, and the latter was from a marriage that took place in Edinburgh, far from Skye.
