Biography
Partner in Messrs. Alexander & Co, Ipswich bankers, unsuccessfully counterclaimed as assignee of an annuity of £200 on New Montpelier Estate in St James, Jamaica with his brother Samuel Alexander and his son Henry Alexander (both q.v.).
Born 14/07/1763 in Needham Market, Suffolk, the son of Dykes Alexander senior and his wife Martha née Biddle, who were both part of a network of East Anglian Quaker banking families. Married Hannah Brewster, daughter of Richard Brewster and Catherine Peckover, 05/07/1786. Died 27/02/1849 in Ipswich, age 85. His son Richard Dykes Alexander made some land in Ipswich available for development in the 1850s and stipulated that some of the streets should be named after leading abolitionists.
