About Rachel Eady White (Llewellyn)

John White Sr., married Eady Llewellin (aka Llewellen), born 1640 in Virginia, around 1660, and they had several children, including John II, born ca. 1663 either in Norfolk County or New Kent County (later became Hanover Co.). She was the daughter of Thomas Llewellen and Sarah.

Children of John White Sr and Eady Llewellyn are:

  • 2 i. Rachel White was born 1657 in Isle of Wight, Nansemond, Virginia, United States.
  • 3 ii. Lucy White was born 1660.
  • 4 iii. Chilion White was born 1660 in Gloucester, Gloucester, Virginia, United States, and died 1709 in Gloucester, Gloucester, Virginia,USA.
  • + 5 iv. Col. John White Jr was born 1665 in Caroline, Virginia, United States, and died 23 March 1729 in Isle of Wight, Nansemond, Virginia, United States.
  • 6 v. Thomas White was born 1666 in St Peters St Paul, New Kent, Virginia, United States, and died 09 Jun 1781 in Franklin, Georgia, United States.
  • 7 vi. James White was born 1670 in St Peters St Paul, New Kent, Virginia, United States.

There are records in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, dated 9 Nov. 1664 and 5 Jan. 1664/5 concerning the estate of Thomas Llewellin of Isle of Wight. His daughter, Eady, married ‘John White of Southerne Branch of Elizabeth River in the County of Lower Norfolk Yeoman’ who was suing for property from the estate [Brayton, W&DB 1, f. 22, 26]. Eady (Llewellen) White evidently died between this time and 21 July 1665 when Paul Luke was granted land formerly owned by Thomas Luellin and the grant states that Thomas Luellin died without issue now living [Nugent, v.1, p. 462]. The John White mentioned is probably my ancestor John White, son of Thomas, although his children were evidently from a later wife.

By a court order in Isle of Wight Co., dated 23 April 1664, “John White of the Southern Branch of Elizabeth River in the County of Lower Norfolk, yeoman” appointed Anthony Benford of Nansemond Co. attorney to demand of Paul Luke of Isle of Wight Co. three thousand pounds of tobacco due “John White in right of my wife Eady Llewellin the daughter of Thomas Llewellin formerly of the County of Isle of Wight.”[33] Court records dated 9 Nov. 1664 show that John White was awarded one bed, a rug, and 1500 pounds of tobacco and cash from Paul Luke, executor of Thomas Llewellin. On 5 Jan. 1664/5 Anthony Benford released Paul Luke of all debts to John White.[34] Thomas Etheridge in his will in Lower Norfolk Co., dated 9 Nov. 1671, willed to one of his sons land by John Whytes house.[35]
