Earl Bland was born on April 20, 1914 to parents, Aden B. Bland (1881-1927) and Margaret "Maggie" Jane (Jones) Bland (1880-1957) in Savannah, Chatham County, GA. He was born a twin with sister, Ernestine Bland.
In 1927 when his father died, they were living at 605 West 44th St. in Savannah, next door to his mother's sister, Mattie Brunson. Around 1935, their family moved to Miami, FL. In 1939, mother Maggie, Earl, sister Ernestine & her daughter, Betty Bennett and Anna Mae "Ann" were all living at 515 NW 50th St. in Miami, FL. Earl worked as the sandwich manager at Court Fountain. On December 25, 1939, his mother, Maggie, gave him a bible for Christmas which eventually was passed on to his niece, Betty.
Earl Bland died on Feb 24, 1943, at age 28, in Miami, Dade County, FL. The funeral service was held at Combs Funeral Chapel on Feb. 26th, 1943, Friday at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Paul O. Elder, officiated. Casket Bearers were Earnest Coxe, Foy C. Adams, W. W. Watkins, Gene Barrette, Leon P. Joiner and Theodore Kendricks. Family remaining included his mother, Mrs. Maggie Bland, sisters Ernestine & Ann Bland, niece Betty Jane Bennett and Mrs. C.P. Pierce.
Many years later, neice, Betty (Bennett) Semple, remembered that she loved the backyard and that there were towels in a chair, for Earl, used for heart therapy as he was in poor health.
