Karl Kalli, age 84, of Baxter, and formerly of Maple Lake and Longville, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Sept. 12, 2013, at Cuyuna Medical Center in Crosby. Earl was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Litchfield, to Hans and Martha (Lamminen) Kalli. He served the United States Army in the Korean Conflict as a corporal. Earl married the love of his life, Bette Puncochar, on Sept. 11, 1954. Following the wedding, the couple took an impromptu honeymoon to Cuba. Earl was a lifetime member of VFW Post #7664, a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, and attended Community Church of Walker. Left to cherish his memory are: his wife of 59 years, Bette; children: Kevin, Karin (Rollin Ryan) and Krista (Charles) Kelley, all of California, and Kurt (Laramie), of Longville; three adored grandchildren: Chenin, Alexis and Nathan; sister: Edith Ailie, of Dassel; and many nieces and nephews. Earl is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pete; and sister, Louella Dandridge. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, near Little Falls. The family is being served by Halvorson-JohnsonBaxter Chapel of Brainerd.
