"Records on the Ebenezer Keeney - Mary Colt family are sparse and inconclusive, but references refer to two sons, Ebenezer and John. There seemingly is no quarrel with Ebenzer Keeney II (1718-1795) [being their son], but numerous family historians cannot agree on John Keeney's (1712-1800) parentage or the mother of his children. Some accounts say that he married Sarah Webster, but records show that she married another John Keeney. Since there were many Websters, including a governor and a prominent senator, maybe there were two Sarah Websters. Nevertheless, the JOHN [KEENEY (1712-1800] headed an outstanding family, which includes a myriad of competent genealogists. He is placed here [as a son of Ebenezer Keeney (1672-1723) and Mary Alice Colt (1696-1734)] as being the most logical spot considering the dates, locations, and other family names."
