Edgar E., born Aug. 19, 1859. The latter was educated at Chamberlain Institute and at the age of nineteen he taught his first term of district school, teaching in all nine terms. At the age of twenty-two he was elected inspector of election and in 1886 was chosen justice of the peace, being the trial justice of his village. March 11, 1883, he married Adda M., daughter of George HORTH; they have one son, Harold, born Dec. 7, 1885.
Edgar E. Wait was married on 11 Mar. 1883 in Leon, Cattaraugus Co. He was part owner of a mill in New Albion about 1890, was on the school building committee in 1894, and became Catt. co. Sheriff.

(IX) Edgar E., son of Zina and Lucinda (Wilbur) Waite, was born August 19, 1859, in Napoli, Cattaraugus county, New York. He was educated in public and select schools, finishing sat Chamberlain Institute. owing to the illness of his mother he was obliged to leave the institute before graduation. He tauhgt school for several years and while so engaged in Randolph began buying and selling cattle. After a time he abondoned teaching and established a livery, sale and exchange barn. in 1903 he was elected sheriff of Cattaraugus county, serving until 1906, continuing as under sheriff in 1907-08-09. Prior to his election as sheriff he had been engaged in selling farm machinery in connection with the livery business. He has a wide acquaintenance among the farmers of the county and is said to be able to call each one by name. He was a very popular public officer and, notwithstanding the many unpleasant duties connected with the sheriff's office, retained all his friends and made no enemies. He is the president of the Cattataugus Agricultural Society, and it has been through his efforts and those of Secretary Wilson that the society has been made so successful an enterprise. He married, March 11, 1883, Adelaide M., daughter of Geroge and Jane (Thorne) Hoelts. (Note the last name of Geroge and Jane as published is in error and it should have read Horth.) They lived in the town of Little Valley, which was formed from Perry, now Perrysburgh on April 10, 1818. Conneango and Napoli were taken off in 1823, Mansfield and New Albion, in 1830, and Bucktooth in 1854. It is an interior town, lying a little s.w. of the center of the county. Its surface is mostly a hilly upland, divided into two principal ridges by the deep valley of Little Valley Creek.
