To the ? , the Senate and House of Representatives
Whereas, this humble petition of Edi Red of the State & District
aforesaid, humbly showeth to your honourable bodies that - she was the
then lawful wife of Job Red, who has lately died, and who was enrolled
for the last twenty years before his death as a State pensioner for
service received as a Revolutionary soldier. ? ? land, the said Job
Red, and myself underwent many privations and hardships during the old
war, - during which time we had our houses burnt - and everything was
possessed in the events, - and also, my husband, the said Job Red. was
badly wounded by the Tories, - which wound rendered him unable to do any
bodily labour so long as he lived of.- Your petitioner is left quite
poor and ? of any property to support on. My friends and relations are
not able to support me in my old days, - I am very infirmed, not able
to do any sort of business, - I am seventy, eighty odd years old. - It
is hereofon hoped that your honourable bodies will take my case into
consideration, and make me a pensioner during my natural life, - and as
in duly bound, your petitioner ? ? pray

after being duly sworn, as ?? directly. sayeth that Job Red departed
this life on the 24th November 1839.

Personally appeared John Wise and made oath that he was acquainted with
Job Red & that he was regarded as a married man in the War of the
Revolution, and his wife's maiden ? was Edi Bently. This deponent
further says that Job Red was wounded by the tories so said in the
Revolutionary War, & that he saw his wife with him for the purpose of
administering to his wants & ? . This deponont moreover says that
he was acquainted with Job Red as long as he lived, & that he
occasionally visited him during his life & that he was living with Edi,
that was said to be his wife in the war of the Revolution. This
deponent further says that he did not see Job Red & Edi Bently married
but from common report believing that they were married in the War of
the Revolution.
