1. Edmund1 Chisman was born Abt. 16021, and died Bef. 23 Nov 1673 in New Poquoson Parish, York Co, VA2. He married Mary Bef. 20 Oct 1646 in Virginia3,4. She died 11 Dec 1678 in Charles Parish, York Co, VA5,6,7.

Children of Edmund Chisman and Mary are:

  • + 2 i. Edmund2 Chisman, Major, b 1649, died Bef. Apr 1678 in Virginia.

Edmund Chisman's family was very prominent in the colony.  He left a will proved 23 February 1673.

Edmund Chisman was the father of Edmund Chisman who participated in Bacon's Rebellion, was tried and convicted and sentenced to hang, (but died in prison instead).[2]

EDWARD (EDMOND) CHEESMAN (CHISMAN, CHEASEMAN, CHEASMAN)

In 1623 Edward (Edmond) Cheesman (Chisman, Cheasman, Cheasman) Came to Virginia on the Providence and on February 16, 1624, was living in Elizabeth City (18). He was still there in early 1625 and was a member of the household headed by his brother, John Cheesman. Edward was then age 22. He patented 300 acres in York County before 1637, and by 1650 he had come into possession of some acreage on the north side of the York River, in what eventually became Mathews County (CBE 44,65; DOR 1:568-570).

Margaret/Margery Ganey (d. ca. 1680) married John Chesman/Chisman/Cheeseman/Cheesman in 1626. Henry Gainye came as a servant to Francis Mason. Descendants of these people intermarried extensively. They lived chiefly in Virginia.
