Disputed origins

A John Freeman, "paterfamilias"—I don't say the John Freeman above, because the "bad merge" commented upon below by Joe Cochoit in 2017 seems not to have been rectified—was buried at Pulborough on 2 May 1629, not 26 January of that year; this was entered in the Research Notes section in 2020 by Jeff Freeman. But beyond that, what, please, is the evidence that John Freeman of Pulborough (bur. 2 May 1629) was the father of Edmond Freeman, who was buried in Pulborough 6 June 1623 and whose namesake son immigrated to New England in 1635? On the face of it (having died six years apart), John and the elder Edmond appear more likely to have been brothers.

We are confident of the knowledge we have researched on John Freeman ("Paterfamilias"), b ca 1530; Edmund Freeman b ca 1570; and Edmund Freeman (the immigrant), b 1590, because our sources were the Parish Records and Bishops Transcripts for the periods of: Pulborough (1595-1629); Cowfold (1558-1666); Billingshurst (1558-1899); and Shipley (1584-1606).
