NOTE: Some of Ancestry.com trees give a date of birth for Edmund Hord, I as c.1509 in Ewell, Surrey, England; an alternative date of birth of c.1520 is also mentioned; both dates are more than likely incorrect as Edmund Hord, I's mother, Dorothy Hord nee Roberts, is recorded as having been born c. More likely, Edmund Hord, I was born sometime between c.1532 (according to the 1948 Collections for a history of Staffordshire, Edmund's brother Thomas Hord, I, was born c.1531) and c.1550 (it cannot be much later than this because Edmund Hord, I has a recorded date of death of 29 Oct. 1575; a date of birth later than c.1550 and he would not be old enough to have been able to father seven children).

From a description of the brass memorial for the Hord family found in Ewell Church:

"Edmund Horde and his wife are represented as slightly turned towards one another. He has short hair, long beard and moustaches, and wears a doublet with frills at the neck and writs and a fur-lined gown with long false sleeves having slits in the upper part for the passage of the arms. His wife wears a costume similar to that of her mother-in-law, but plainer in detail, also she has no collar nor an embroidered petticoat."
