Biography

Edward was the earliest proven Burleson in America. He was a planter and a flax dresser.

He resided in Suffield when on 31 Jan 1679 he took the oath of allegiance to the King of England.

Edward was considered a Puritan and was serious about his religion. In the spring of 1685 he and others were very upset by Rev. Younglove's sermons. He had quite a temper and made some outbursts in town meetings for which he was called to the Court at Springfield in the Massachusetts Bay Colony and ordered to pay fines for disturbances to the peace.

Again, in March of 1691 he was called to court to answer charges of "reproachful and scurrilous vile speeches against Mr. George Phillips, their late minister."

He died in Jun 1698 in Suffield, Massachusetts Bay Colony (now part of Hartford County, Connecticut) leaving a modest estate which included "old Bibles and other books".

Disputed relationships

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Burleson-174

Edward Burleson is frequently identified in error as the son of Martha and Edward Burleson of London, England, born there in 1627, but that child was buried at the age of two years old. That Edward and Martha could not have subsequently named another child Edward is confirmed by the burial of Martha and the likely re-marriage of that Edward [2].

No records have been found to suggest that Edward Burlison, tailor of London, had a son named Edward by any wife other than Martha.

There is no evidence from any primary sources to support the unfounded speculation that the descendants of Edward Burleson of Connecticut are in any way related to the descendants of Aaron Burleson of Virginia. For more information, please the early history of these two distinct and separate families, as presented in “The History of the Burleson Family in America” by the Burleson Family Assocation.

About 1675 Edward Burleson married Sarah Owen [No evidence from any original record to identify Sarah's maiden surname].
