Son of Charles Carter (1732-1806) and Mary Walker Carter, the daughter of Charles Carter and Mary Walker.
Grandson of John Carter (1690-1742) G-grandson of Robert "King" Carter (1663-1742)
Married Janet Carter, daughter of John Carter and Janet Hamilton.
He built and resided at "Cloverland", Prince William Co., VA., a plantation emcompassing roughly 2,536 acres (including the "Falkland" land at the time before his death.
A short distance to the south of the 2,000 acre "Cloverland", plantation once owned by his father Charles Carter of the Corotoman and Shirley plantations, is "Falkland", from which it abutted. Falkland house was built 1825-1850 by his son John Hill Carter, Sr., the land formerly encompassed approximately 536 acres. His son John Hill Carter, Sr. had received the estate, part of the 12,285-acre Broad Run Tract patented in 1724 by Robert "King" Carter, from his grandfather Charles Carter, one of "King" Carter's grandsons.
Edward Carter was co-founder of both the Buckland (1798) and Haymarket (1799) communities.
