At the time of his death he was a magistrate of the territory and a director of the Hobart Gas Co., and was interested as a shareholder in the steamship companies and colonial banking institutions. He was elected trustee of Melville St Wesleyan Church in September, 1874, and was circuit steward for sometime, and secretary of the Davey St Sunday school for 15 years. He left a wife of 45 years, one son, two married daughters, and one unmarried.
