Biography Maria was born about 1807. She was the daughter of Thomas Chaffey and Maria Israel. She passed away in 1896. Maria is buried with her husband Edward at Queenborough Cemtery. Notes My research leads me to a second marriage for Maria: Maria Mary Ann Garth age 32 widow,married Edward Espie age 27, farmer, on 28/4/1842 in the Presence of William & Mary Chaffey at St.Georges. Edward Espie and Maria had the following children: Lydia Agnes 2/4/1843 Mothers name given as Maria Garth Birth Reg Hobart 1394. James 10/8/1845 - died 1851 Mother's name given as Maria Garth Birth Reg 1205. George 6/3/1847 Mother's name given as Maria Garth REG 839. (Edith) Female 27/5/1850 mothers name given as Maria Chaffey Reg 2405 Maria Margot 23/10/1851 - died 26/5/1861 Mother's name given as Maria Chaffey reg 839. Death RGD 35/1/6 no 2772. Anna Clara 11/3/1853 Mother's name given as Maria Chaffey Reg 2206.

Maria Espie died 3/8/1896 aged 87. Linc Tas Search: RGD 35/1/15 no 824. Also of interest is the death notice of JONES: On January 4th 1886, Sandy Bay. ANN, the beloved husband Of George Jones - sister of Mrs Espie, DeWitt St Battery Point. In her 96th year of age. THE REASON? Ann Chaffey sister of Maria first married Thomas Williams. He Died in 1844 she was alive as recorded at Inquest as witness. An Ann Williams, widow, married George Jones aged 28 , and a sawyer in 1846.
