About Edward (John) Floyd, Ill

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LDMY-MSZ has him as son of Edward Floyd b 1641, married Mechell Harris, father of Col. William Floyd (who married Abadiah Davis)

That would make him brother to Ann Floyd:

The proof of the first marriage, to Ann Floyd, is as follows: 28 Xbris 1682, William Byrd prayed to be relieved as security for estate of Ann Floyd, an orphan in the wardship of James Forrest, - - - - - - -"an acquaintance from Joseph Tanner, who married the said orphan."

Notes for William Floyd

From 2008

These are my notes (or I credit others); if you use them, fine, but please cite me as your reference, so that if I change my notes (which is all the time), others can track the info back to me. Thanks! ~~

We have no proof that this William Floyd is the son of John Floyd, born abt 1701, but as these notes relate, I have come to believe so.

(But there is another construct which has this William b 1721 as the son of John Floyd, son of Charles Floyd, son of John Floyd b abt 1643 in prob Wales... and m Mary Berry and d 26 Jul 1687 Northampton Co., Va, and it is this line that I currently (Jun 2008) think the best, but unproved, choice; see below after the next "line")

Nevertheless that is what I have allowed for here, but have not indicated William's mother. I cannot make dates to make sense unless I construct a line as shown here.

We certainly know that William, born about 1721 probably in Accomac County, was the husband of Abadiah Davis. I have come to believe this line with the dates applied to make sense:

  • John, born abt 1643,
  • John, abt 1675,
  • John, born about 1695, and
  • William, 1721.

Notes for Ann Floyd

From https://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bhreed&i...

Ann Floyd in 1682, at age 22, married Joseph Tanner, while she was the ward of James Forrest, who may (or may not) have been her stepfather. In 1683 when Joseph came of age, he became the guardian of her [HIS] brother and two sisters and the court discharged Gilbert Platt's guardianship; Richard Ward was his security. At even this young age he was referred to as "Mr. Joseph Tanner."

In Jan 2013 a note from Robert Atteberry notes that Micha, wife of William Bostick, was the child of of Edward
Floyd. Bob Atteberry notes that "..... In my earliest analyses I had developed a scenario in which it appeared to me that Michall was a daughter of John Burgany and Michall Harris.... Later on, through further research, I developed data which strongly suggests that Michall Harris had married Edward Floyd as her 3rd husband, following the death of John Burgany. The single most conclusive piece of data was the law suit filed by Richard Parker on behalf of Harris and John Wilson, judgment being entered on 15June1741. In that suit the defendants included William Bostick Jr., his wife Micha [Michall], John Bostick, William Floyd and William Burgany. Through an accumulation of estate and land records, it became clear to me that Micha was actually a daughter of the union between Edward Floyd and Michall Harris Johnson Burgany, and not a daughter of John Burgany. Attached you will find a copy of my final research paper in which I fully develop the basis for my conclusion that Micha Bostick was actually Michall Floyd Wilson, daughter of Edward Floyd and widow of Richard Wilson [father of Harris and John Wilson]. [I have the research paper in my files which Bob kindly sent in Jan 2013]...."
