About Edward Goode III

Edward Goode was the step-brother of Judith Morton.  Edward and Judith lived in Amelia County until 1748 on land inherited from her father (Thomas).

In 1748 Edward Goode and Judith sold 150 acres on the Appomattox River to William Archer.

They moved to Lunenburg Co., VA. around 1750. They lived in that part of Lunenburg which became Mecklenburg Co. in 1765.

On 10 Sep 1755 Edward Goode was granted 1000 acres in Lunenburg County on the north side of KittÕs Creek, adjoining Hatcher & Twitty.

In 1762 as Edward Goode of Lunenburg County, he bought 780 acres on the south side of Kitts Creek from Joseph Gill.  Among the witnesses to the indenture was his posited nephew Edward Goode Hatcher.

In 1764 in St James Parish, Lunenburg County, Edward Goode was listed with Joseph Goode, 7 tithables, 1780 acres of land.

Edward sold part of his Kitts Creek land, 250 acres, to Roger Atkinson in 1765.

He sold 150 more acres of his Kitts Creek land to Hugh Berry in 1767.

Edward bought 200 acres on Blackstone Creek in Mecklenburg County from Philip Poindexter in 1777.

He sold 200 more acres of his Kitts Creek land to William Wilson of Chesterfield County in 1779.

In the 1782 Virginia census, Edward was listed in Mecklenburg County, with 6 whites and 16 blacks

Edward died intestate and his heirs gave a power of attorney to two individuals to sell his 760-acres estate and distribute the proceeds in 1796.  All five sons - Edward, Richard, Joseph, John, Thomas - were then in Rutherford County, North Carolina, Mary Fontaine and her husband were in Halifax County, Elizabeth and William Wood were in South Carolina, and Judith and Agnes Goode were still living in Mecklenburg County.  Jane, who had married Philip Poindexter, was dead by then and did not share in the distribution..
