Born to Garner Greene and Elizabeth (Mifflin) Hammond in Waterford on November 4, 1868. He graduated St. Paul's school at Concord, N.H. and was a member of the class of 1891 at Harvard University. He was heavily involved with railroads, working first for the Boston & Albany railroad and later became president of the New London Northern Railroad. A strong love of Waterford brought him and his bride Anna Rumrill to Walnut Cove Farm. Mr. Hamond was instrumental in building the new hall of records and was chairman of the finance committee. He was an active supporter of the Boy Scouts, associated with the organization for twenty three years.
