Mr Edward Ellis Jones. It is with regret that we announce the death of Mr Edward Ellis Jones, a well known resident of Arrowtown, who passed away on Monday evening last. He was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1858, and arrived in New Zealand with his parents about ten years later He came to Arrowtown in 1870 and has resided in this district since that date. He was for some time on the staff of the Arrow Observer, but he subsequently took up mining pursuits, and be was employed at the Macetown quartz mines for many years. He also worked at Bullendale and other mines in the Lakes district. Until his health broke down a few months ago he was custodian of the Atheneum Hall and also librarian of the Arrow Public Library. Of a quiet and retiring disposition the late Mr Jones was very highly respected throughout the district, and the news of his death will be received with regret by a large circle of friends. He leaves his widow and a family of three sons Edward (Mosgiel). David (Queenstown), and Walter (Arrowtown), and one daughter (Mrs W. V Adams, of Arrowtown) to mourn their loss. The funeral took place yesterday and was largely attended The service at the grave was conducted by the Rev. W. W Powell.
