About Edward Reuben Kempe
Edward was a blacksmith, proprietor of Dedham Mass June 28, 1638 farm 1638-9 moved to Wenham, MA declined office of Deacon in 1651 moved to Chelmsford, MA His will was dated Jan 27, 1667 and proved April 6, 1669 he left Esther, Sam Foster and son S. Foster and to kinsman Samuel Kemp of Groton. from Pioneers of MA.
He tried to prevent cruelty to the local Native American Indians during the King Phillips war but found the public against him. He left the country and went to Canada to live.
Edward Reuben Kempe (b. about 1610 -1668) and Edward Kemp (b. about 1610 or earlier-1668) are one and the same man. His wife's name in some records is listed as Ann Buckenham, whereas her name is listed as Esther Buckenham in other records. They married in Diss, Norfolk, England in May 1628. Ann (or Esther) Kempe gave birth to Esther, Samuel, Matthew and Anne in Massachusetts, according to Arthur J. Weise's book, "The New-England Kemps", and some genealogical records on Ancestry.com and FamilySearch. Edward Kemp (or Edward Reuben Kempe)'s family tree is missing some details, such as his whereabouts in 1637-1638.
