About Edward Nolan

Biography

Edward was most likely born in 1849 as he was listed as age 3 on the 1851 Census, which was conducted in January 1852 and listed ages as of the next birthday. He was the eldest son and second child of eleven in the family. Edward helped his father with the family farm in Douro Township, Ontario until some time in the 1880s, when several family members left for the United States. A census record suggested Edward came in 1886.

Edward married around 1898 perhaps in Minneapolis. His father's 1903 obituary lists Minneapolis as Edward's residence.

Edward and his family to Brainerd, Minnesota before 1905, apparently following other Nolan family members, and took a job with the railroad, as a laborer in the engine repair shop.

Edward was identified as a cousin of James J. Nolan in an obituary for his son which appeared in The Brainerd Dispatch.[1]. This reference provides a key link between his grandfather Edward Nolan and James Nolan Sr. More likely the two Nolans listed were second cousins, and their grandfathers were brothers. For further information see Edward Nolan.

Edward lost his wife in 1918 to the global Influenza Epidemic. He died in Lake of the Woods, Minnesota of cancer in 1934. There are three listings for his date of death. His death certificate lists January 15.

He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, in Brainerd. Plot: Block 35, Lot 1, NEC S 1/2
