MEMORIAL PHOTOS 4 FLOWERS 0 Edward W Salo, longtime Superior and town of Lakeside resident, died Tuesday, Jan 25, 2011, at the Lighthouse of Superior. He was born June 8, 1920, in the town of Lakeside to David and Hulda (Maansaari) Salo and lived most of his life in the town of Lakeside.

He married Agnes Pellinen, his partner, best friend and the love of his life on March 12, 1941, and celebrated 65 years of marriage before she passed away Dec 28, 2006. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He served in the U S Army fron Nov 1942 to Nov 1945. Ed was stationed with the 9th Armored Division, where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and capturing the Remagen Bridge.

He was employed with the section crew of the Great Northern Railroad at the B and B Ore Docks for 20 years and then was employed as a warehouseman for Lakehead Constructors for 20 years.

Ed was a life member of the VFW post 847, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Teamsters Local 346. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing bingo, dancing, fishing, traveling, hunting and loved playing practical jokes on family and friends.

In addition to his wife Agnes, Ed is preceded in death by his parents; and seven brothers, Art, Reino, Walter, Roy, Frank, Carl and Eino Salo.

He is survived by a sister, Hazel Salo, Superior; four daughters, Janice (Robert) Whittaker, Georgetown, TX, Gloria (David) Sloan, Superior, Dianna (Dennis) Cooke, Proctor and Elizabeth (John) Stupak, Eau Claire, WI; two sons, Edward Jr, Superior and Dean (Joanne), South Range; nine grandchildren, Patricia Sloan of Superior, James Whittaker of Tulsa, OK, Jodie (Karl) Johnson of Duluth, Troy (Maria) Adolfson of Duluth, Patrick (Carrie Jo) Cooke of Proctor, Shane Salo of Superior, Jennie (John) Rackliffe of Cloquet, Danielle (Paul) Hammond of South Range and Jonathan Fechner, U S Navy stationed in Japan; 18 great-grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Matthew, Zachary, Antony, Nicolas, Joshua, Jesse, Peytra, Ty, Alexandra, Chelsea, Derek, Tyler, Kaylee, Belle, Madison and Jennifer.
