• Witt: Thomas Perry, Nathaniel Rackcliffe, Jr., Joseph Staton, Jr. (Note: Mary Frances Carey's Thorton file shows Edward Thornton's will of 1703 names a fifth son as James, who is not in Nottingham's will book.) It appears that present day Thorntons on the mainland of the Eastern Shore can be traced back to either son Edward or William Thornton. According to Whitelaw, Edward got the southern part and William got the northern part of the original tract. All the Thorntons of Chincoteague can be tracted back to their brother James Thornton.
