Notes from Joan B. William Keating and Mary White were married 4th. April 1865, they had 5 children Lucy, James, Mary Ellen, William Edward and Agnes. William Edward Keating was born on the 4th. February 1875 to William Keating and Mary White. At the time of his birth they lived at 31 Bolton Street, Dublin, his father’s occupation was given as a Porter. William Edward married Margaret Tyrell in 1892 approx. They lived at no 2 Coombe Street. They had five children. Margaret died in childbirth in 1907. Michael born 1896 died 1950 age 55yrs William Edward jnr. born 1899 died 1940 age 41yrs John born 1901 died 1958 age 57yrs Mary born 1903 died 1972 age 69yrs Annie born 1907 died 1965 age 58yrs

William Edward then married Rosanna Weldon and they lived in various houses in Dominick Street, they had three children. Daniel born 1914 died 1920 age 6 (fell over a balcony and died) Ned born 1917 circa 1965 Lucy born 1918 died 1934 age 16 Lucy died when she fell under a train at Portmarnock station, it was an accident. William Edward died in 1949. When I searched the Census for 1911 I could only find William Edward snr and Michael, at that time their occupation was described as Porters, they could have been in the Coombe Hospital perhaps. As Margaret Tyrell had died I can only presume that the family had split up. John and his brother William spent some time in the Artane Boys Home, which was like a reform school) I know that Mary and Annie were put into St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Cavan where they remained until they were about 18yrs old and this was not a happy experience for them, they said that they were treated like slaves. Michael ...only information that I have for him is that when he died his address was given as 7 Anner Road, Inchicore, Dublin. William married a farmer’s daughter from Ballinskea Enfield Co Meath and was in the Police force. Mary (May) married Johnny Lacey, they had one child named Bridget Imelda born in 1928. They lived in Sheriff Street and then in 1962 moved to Raheny. Annie married Charles Doyle and they lived at 3 Belvedere Place off Mountjoy Square, they did not have any children. Charlie did not enjoy good health and died quite young, Annie moved to Seville Place in 1962 where she had an artisan dwelling house; it was small but very cosy. Ned married Josie Kavanagh and they lived in Rutland Street, they had twin boys Pat and Eamon born in 1942.

My Grandfather John Keating went to school in Blackpitts in Dublin he then worked as a blacksmith for a Coal Company in Ringsend. In 1917 he joined the IRA and was a Section Commander, after the truce he joined the Free State Army and eventually joined the Police Force.
