About Edward Wilson Cunningham

Taken from Post Dispatch 08-12-1912

E.W. Cunningham, aged 64 years a pioneer citizen of Yell County, died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ike Polk, on Mt. Nebo Saturday night at 10 o'clock, death being caused by heart failure. The funeral service, conducted by rev. Key was held at Brearley Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 5:00 o'clock.
Mr. Cunningham was born at Dover, in Pope County, in 1848, and when but a child removed to this city with his parents, Col. and Mrs. Robert Cunningham.
During the latter part of the Civil War he served in an Arkansas regiment in the Confederate Army.
In 1867 he embarked in the general mercantile business in Dardanelle, and for nearly two score years was one of the largest and most successful merchants in this section of the State. sue to advancing age and ill health he retired from active business about five years ago.
Mr. Cunningham was for 41 years an Elder in the Presbyterian Church of this city. He was zealous Christian and an exemplary citizen, and his long life of consecrated service and usefulness is a more eloquent tribute to his memory than any eulogy we might pen.
Deceased is survived by six grown children, Mrs. A.J. Kayser of Joplin, Mo., Mrs. Geo W. carter, Mrs. Ike Polk, Mrs. J. M. Nolen, and R. H. and Jessie M. Cunningham, all of this city.
The P-D joins the many friends of the surviving relatives in tendering sympathy in their great loss.
