Former Army Officer Shoots Brother, Self At Fort Worth FORT WORTH, June 9 Boyd S. Coffin, 39, loved his :big German shepherd dog, •Laddie. That love seemed to increase, neighbors said, after his wife -left him last month. - Yesterday Coffin phoned po- 'lice and told them he wanted the dog shipped to a relative in Salt Lake City. "I thought the guy was de- •mented," said Officer W. K, .Moore. "He kept telling me about the dog. "Then he said he was fixing to kill his brother and himself. We tried to trace the call but couldn't do it. While he was talking I heard a shot in the background." Then neighbors phoned police about shots in the Coffin apartment. Officers found Coffin and his brother, Edwin C. Coffin. 51, shot to death. Neighbors said Boyd had been moody since his wife left 'him and often disturbed them by playing the phonograph. A large collection of classical music albums, mostly Wagner, was found in the apartment. Edwin was discharged as a captain from the Army May 28. The brothers' parents live at San Francisco.
