About Edwin Davey
Edwin Davey is my great grandfather. Although belonging to a family of timber-cutters, he was a horse-handler all his life. Born in Devon, England, he came with his father Richard and mother Mary to Australia. Richard was "sent" to the Branch, a tiny settlement just north of Karuah on the western shore f Port Stephens. The Branch was set up as a timber town, since Richard was a carpenter. His sons were the town postman and the town blacksmith. Upon arrival at the Branch I have been unable to find any more about the families history other than Elizabeth, the eldest daughter married Charles Dee II, a young businessman from nearby Buladelah (Bulla Della).
