From Find-A-Grave Obit story: Edwin Madison Keeling was born in Reed's Mill in Benton County, Alabama now called Calhoun County, Alabama. He was a son of Abner William and Rebecca E. Miller Keeling. The family moved to Etowah County around 1850 when Edwin's father bought large tracts of land on the east and west sides of the Coosa River. Edwin was enrolled in Harvard University, as a pre-med student, at the time of the War between the States. At age 20, he volunteered and enlisted with Captain W.H. Forney, Company G, for service with the 10th Alabama Regiment. He fought in the Battles of Manasses, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Petersburg and was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia. He was discharge from service and returned home in 1865. Later he went to Leesburg, Florida where his father owned a plantation. While there, he married Queen Florida Alsobrook on December 13, 1866. They became parents of seven children. After the death of Queen, Edwin married Mary S. Holmes on Sept. 12, 1899. Mary was buried in 1912 in Sheppard Cemetery. Queen and Edwin Madison were buried in Keeling/McCluney/Bryan Cemetery near the Gadsden State Junior College. All remains in that old cemetery were interred at various Etowah County cemeteries. Edwin and Queen's remains were placed in Crestwood Cemetery. A wonderful story and many more details of the life of Edwin Madison and Queen Florida Keeling was submitted by granddaughter, Lucille Keeling Stephens, to be published in The Heritage of Etowah County, Alabama.
