About Edwin J. Martinson
RED BLUFF, Calif. -- Edwin J. Martinson, a retired lumber grader and former Lewiston resident, died of complications of Parkinson's disease Thursday February 11, 1999 at Brentwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 82.
He was born March 14, 1916, to Charles and Petra Martinson in Elk River. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1934 and then attended Lewiston State Normal School.
During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Air Forces with the 486th Fighter Squadron in Europe.
He married Marcella Riener of Cottonwood March 14, 1942, in Moscow. Following the war he returned to Lewiston and worked for Potlatch Forests Inc. as a lumber grader. In 1962 they moved to Red Bluff and he worked as a lumber grader for 20 years for Diamond National, retiring in 1982.
He loved golfing and as a young man worked as a caddy at the Lewiston Elks Golf Club. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was active with the Wilcox Oaks Golf Club, Oak Creek Golf Club, Sons in Retirement and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife at their home in Red Bluff; two sons, Edwin Martinson of Lewiston and John Martinson of Red Bluff; two daughters, Karen Flores of Rancho Murietta, Calif., and Margo Scaife of Red Bluff; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Bluff followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Red Bluff.
