The Dalby Herald (Qld) Fri 8 Nov 1929; Obituary:

Mr. Edwin Vidler

Mr. Edwin Vidler, of Wallace street, Bell, passed away at the Dalby Hospital on Tuesday, at the advanced age of 88 years.

The deceased was the son of Kentish parents, and was born in NSW [not Glasgow] on April 5th, 1841. He followed the occupation of a farmer and teamster in his younger days, and about 28 years ago he came to Queensland from New South Wales, where, at Jamberoo, he had married Miss Emma Bidney, who at 84 years of age survives him.

They settled at first at Ipswich where they stayed about four years before taking up land in the Highflelds and Cawdor district. After spending fifteen years in that neighbourhood, they came to Bell in the year 1920, where they became well-known and very much esteemed.

Mr. Vidler is survived by three daughters, Mesdames Annie Haydon, and Matilda Daws, both of Sydney, and Mrs. Emily E. Thomas, of Oakey, and eight sons, Messrs Lindsay (of Bell), Melbun, Frederick, Victor, Bruce, Archibald, Harold and Oliver.

There remain about sixty grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. It is worthy of notice that a great-grandson, Edwin Lyle Vidler, was an expert mountaineer, and unfortunately lost his life last year in an ascent of Mount Lindsay in the Macpherson Range.

The funeral took place at Bell on Wednesday afternoon, the last rites at the graveside being performed by the pastor of the Bell Presbyterian Church, the Rev. D. Rodger. Messrs Johnston and Carter, of Dalby, were the undertakers.
