It is not quite clear who owned Austrått after Finn Arnesson, but there are theories on how the big farm may have moved on in inheritance after him:

Sigrid Finn's daughter was one of Finn Arnesson's two daughters named in the saga. She was married to Orm Eilivsson Earl of Uplands. His mother was Ragnhild Håkonsdatter, who had charged Earl Håkon Sigurdsson (The Mighty) to the father. It is not more closely known who the father of Orms Eilivsson was the son of, but it is estimated that he was of the coveted seed. Sigrid may have gotten Austrått as his farsarv, but without having lived there after the marriage of Orm. She probably moved to the uplands.

Nor is it certain that the next owners of Austrått were living on the farm. A man named Eiliv, who lived under Olav Kyrre, may have been the son of Sigrid Finns Datter and Orm Eilivsson. However, in the saga of Olav Kyrres, not a single male subject is named and more closely spoken. We therefore have no direct information about Eiliv. However, if his full name was Eiliv Ormsson, he may have been the son of Sigrid Finns's daughter and Orm Eilivsson. Thus Austrått may have gone as morsarv to him from Sigrid Finn's daughter.

Today Eilivsson was a high-ranking man who stood high in favour of Magnus Berrføtts's sons. He was an Ampman and owned a mortal estate in Vestfold, Bamble and Nedre Telemark. Maybe he was the son of the above Eiliv? He followed Magnus Berrføtt (1073-1103) on his second three Sea expedition, and was, among the last to flee when Magnus fell during a gangway in Ireland 1103. Dag Eilivsson was married to Ragnhild Skoftesdatter, the daughter of Skofte Ogmundsson. At least they had two children:

Gregorius Dagsson, D. 1161. He was an Ampman, owned and lived after his father in the great Bratsberg farm in Gjerpen. This farm received both the backrest and the Amt Bratsberg name after (Telemark County). Gregorius was the head of the great-man party who was under the contention between the sons of Harald Gille (d. 1136) and supported the best and least self-righteous of them, King Inge Krokrygg (d. 1161). During the fight, Bratsberg Gård was burned by the brother of the King Eystein Haraldsson (d. 1157). Gregorius fell into battle with Eystein's son Håkon Herdebreid (d. 1162) near Kongshelle. Borghild's Day daughter was married to Kåre Kongbror. (See below!) Kåre Kongbror, D. ca. 1150, was the son of Sigrid Saksesdatter. She was king Magnus Berrføtts Frille, and mother of the king's son, Olav Magnusson, who was co-king of the Half brothers Sigurd Jorsalfar and Eystein Magnusson in the years 1103-1115, but who died young. Sigrid's father was the Sakse in Vik (now Saksvik in Malvik). The father of Kåres is not known. Kåre Kongbror was married to Borghild's daughter (see above!) It is said that King Magnus Berrføtt made Kåre Kong's brother to Lendmann and gave him Austrått as a gift. Another allegation is that it was Kåre's mother, Sigrid Saksesdatter, who received Austrått and owned by Magnus Berrføtt. However, from possible family context (implied above) it may also be that Borghild's daydaughter was a legitimate heir to the farm. In the least of these two children, Kåre Kong's brother and Borghild's day daughter:

Sigurd Kåresson, the next owner of Austrått.

That's Daykåresson.

  • Note: Kåre Kongbror is sometimes referred to as Kåre Sakseson, even Sakse was not the father, but his maternal grandfather. Besides Sigrid, Sakse in Vik also had a daughter Tora. She had a son who was called Sigurd. It was alleged that the father was Adalbrikt priest, but Tora let Sigurd hear that King Magnus Berrføtt was also his father. Sigurd, who was raised to the priest and the vigor of deacon, demanded in 1135 that Harald Gille recognize him as the son of the king, but he was rejected and was born after the life of Harald. The following year Sigurd killed his half-brother (?), Harald Gille. But the battle of royal Power continued. Sigurd was tortured to death after suffering defeat by Holmenkollen (in Hvaler) 1139. He is often called Sigurd Slembe (eg, Slembedjakn = the bad Deacon).
