Albert Stevense Van Voorhees was the son of Steven Coerts Van Voorhees and Willemtje Roelofs Seuberinge.

He was born circa 1654 at Hees, Drenthe, Netherlands. He was born in 1658 at Hees, Drente, Netherlands.

He married Barrentje Willemse in 1680.

He married Helletje Reiniers Wizzelpenning, daughter of Reynnier Wesselpenck and Jannetje Snediker, on 24-Apr-1682 at Dutch Reformed Church, Flatbush, Kings County, New York.

He married Elena Vander Schure in 1693 at Dutch Reformed Church, Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey.

He married Elena Vander Schure after 1691, they had eight children baptised Dutch Church, Hackensack, NJ between 1694 and 1708.

Albert Stevense Van Voorhees died after 14-May-1727. He died at Kinderkamack, Bergen County, New Jersey.

Albert Stevense van Voorhees; born circa 1654 at Drenthe, Netherlands; married first Helletje Reiniers Wizzelpenning daughter of Reynier Wizzelpenning and Jannetje Snedeker, 24 Apr 1681 at Ref. Ch., Flatbush, Kings Co., NY; He is listed as Albert Stephensz, young man from Ruinen in Drenthe and she as Jelletje Reiniers Wizzel-penning, young lady from Middleburg in this country; married second Magdelena van der Schueren, daughter of William van der Schuur and Grietje Platenburg, circa 1691; died after 1727. [Stokes, "The Van Voorhees Family," pg. 54.]
He immigrated with his parents in 1660 and is listed in many records as Albert Coerten. Albert appears on the assessment rolls of Flatlands in 1683. He received a patent for a tract of land near Kinderkamack, north of Hackensack, NJ, dated 27 April 1696. The land is described as 75 acres on the Hackensack River between David Akarman, formerly Jacques Larue, and John Berrie. [This deed is listed in book E. of East Jersey deeds as published in "Documents Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New Jersey," Vol. XXI, pg. 243.]
Albert Stevense "Voohys" and his wife Jelleties Reyniers Wisselpenninck are listed as members of the Hackensack Ref. Ch. in 1686. In the will of his brother-in-law, John Kiersen, dated 1705, he is listed as Albert "Stevensen." ["Holland Society Collection," 1891, pg. 1.]
"The Old Church on the Green" pg. 4 states that Aelbert Stevense was installed as elder for the west side 25 July 1686. Albert was chosen as an elder in the Hackensack Ref. Ch. in 1695, 1700, 1702, 1704 and 1714. In May 1696 a church meeting was held at the home of Elder Albert Stevense in Hackensack.
Albert Stevense purchased a large farm from Captain John Berry in 1686. The farm extended from the Hackensack to the Saddle River. A portion of this land is mentioned in "New Jersey Colonial Documents," pg. 236 stating that David Ackerman purchased 420 acres with the southwest corner abutting Major John Berrie and Albert Stevense. [C. Harvey, "Genealogical History of Hudson and Bergen Counties, NY," pg. 83-84.]
Albert and his wife Elena are last recorded together as sponsors at the baptism of their grandson, Albert, son of Willem Albertse and Susanna Laroe, 7 Jun 1719 at the Hackensack Ref. Ch. Albert Stevensen and Cornelia Westervelt were sponsors at the baptism of his grandson, Albert, son of Lucas Albertsen and Annetje Kip, 14 May 1727 at Hackensack Ref. Ch.
A memorial tablet was placed in the Hackensack Church in memory of Albert Stevensen van Voorhees 10 Oct 1942 on the tenth anniversary of the Van Voorhees Association.

(Research):BIOGRAPHY: He came to New Amsterdam with his parents aboard the Bonte Koe in 1660. He appears on the Assessment Rolls for Flatlands in 1683.

BIOGRAPHY: After his marriage to Elena, Albert obtained land near Kinderkamack, north of Hackensack, securing a patent for 75 acres on the Hackensack River. Here he lived for the remainder of his life.

BIOGRAPHY: Albert was also an elder of the Hackensack Church, serving in 1695, 1700/02, 1704, and 1714.

DEATH: The dates of death for Albert and Elena are not currently known. Their last appearance together in the official records is at the baptism of their grandson Albert. Albert appears again at the baptism of another grandson on 14 May 1727, without Elena.
