Eleanor Jean Miller, 83, passed on in Forest Grove, OR December 4, 2013 Although Eleanor was born and raised in Brownfield, Texas she made her hometown wherever she landed throughout the United States and around the world. She graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and taught at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina. When she met her surviving beloved best friend, a handsome air force pilot, Donald Mayfarth, they married and took off spending the next 57 years living life to the fullest whether in service to their communities, active in the life of their church, or playing with their many long time friends and extended family.
Eleanor and Don lived for 25 years in Sunnyvale, California where Eleanor taught in public schools. The Sunnyvale FISH and Friends Outside food and clothing closets were based in her garage for a time. She utilized her fluent Spanish to support the migrant farm families of the Santa Clara Valley. As the director of the ecumenical Media Resource Center in Santa Clara, CA she spent the greater part of her career working to make Christian Education vibrant and relevant for all ages.
After retiring and moving to Auburn, CA in 1985 her passion for genealogy and church history took her and Don across the country in their fifth wheel camper as they searched out long lost relatives. Her efforts confirmed the genetic connection of preachers and teachers through time.
She loved parking her camper and playing dominoes in Netarts-by-the-Bay, Oregon with her daughters Mary Hall of Hillsboro, OR, and Debbie Ortega of Manteca, CA; son-in-laws Jack and Juan; grandchildren, Angela, Tina, Ryan, Matt, Troy and Andria; and her great-grandchildren Marisa and Davin. She loved spending the holidays with family including her adopted daughter Michele Hines of Granite Bay, CA; son in law Jim and granddaughters Ashley and Lindsey.
A celebration of life is planned for sometime in the summer months in Netarts, Oregon. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
(Hope all of you will share this with others in the Veazey family. You may remember that Eleanor and Don attended several of our earlier VZ Reunions.)
